Press Release No. 01/2012: Request to the Ministry of Public Security for the release of Rev. Nguyen Van Ly and 20 other detainees on the occasion of

VRNs (01-10-2012) – Saigon, Vietnam – The Vietnamese Redemptorist News, families of detainees and many faithful welcome the goodwill of the Ministry of Public Security in allowing several of 17 Catholic and Christian youths being detained unlawfully in Hanoi, Saigon and Nghe An to meet with their families during last Christmas.

Approaching is the Nham Thin Tet, a very important occasion for family members to be united with one another, VRNs, therefore, is asking the Ministry of Public Security, along with other Bureaus throughout the provinces/cities in Hanoi, Saigon, Nghe An, Thua Thien/Hue to let the following people to be released awaiting trial during the Tet celebration:

17 Catholic and Christian youths, 2 bloggers, and 1 prisoner of conscience:

4. Mr. Le Van Son
5. Mr. Nong Hung Anh
6. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh
7. Mr. Nguyen Van Duyet
8. Mr. Thai Van Dung
9. Mr. Ho Van Oanh
10. Mr. Tran Minh Nhat
11. Ms. Ta Phong Tan
12. Mr. Chu Manh Son
13. Mr. Tran Huu Duc
14. Mr. DauVan Duong
15. Mr. Tran Vu Anh Binh
16. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Cuong
17. Mr. Hoang Phong
18. Mr. Nguyen Van Hai (Dieu Cay)
19. Mr. Phan Thanh Hai (Anh Ba Saigon)
20. Mrs. Bui Thi Minh Hang
21. Rev. Nguyen Van Ly

Twenty of them have all been arrested by the police without due process according to the Criminal Code of Vietnam. In particular, Father Nguyen Van Ly is seriously ill.

All of these 21 people should be able to reunite with their families and their episcopal communities during the upcoming Lunar New Year. This is also an opportunity for the image of the people’s police to be improved after a long period of time being quite troublesome to the citizens.

We hope that the Ministry and other related Bureaus to show us how much you care about the people’s opinion.
